Your subconcious mindby Lynette Allen For as long as I can remember I've wanted to live by the sea. I just love knowing that there is so much out there that I don't know about and, somehow standing on the beach looking out at such a huge expanse of water reminds me just how small us humans are in comparison to the world - very useful sometimes in one's more reflective moments! I haven't always lived by the sea though. I moved here four years ago with my husband - lovingly known as The Chosen One and our two boys (four legged ones not two), Georgie and Barney. At the moment I wish I could tell you what it looks like from my office window in my house but the famous sea mist is covering everything and I can only just make out a ship moving quietly through the mist. On sunnier days, it's a great spot for sailing enthusiasts and there can be dozens of boats out there making my view very interesting, if not slightly distracting! I love my office and I love gazing out into the sea but it has its disadvantages too…flippin windy! When the wind gets up there's really no stopping it, nothing to stop that biting cold wind and I hadn't bargained for that when we moved here! The point about our move here though to our lovely house by the sea, is that it wasn't definitely going to happen. Our mortgage company were dragging their feet on getting all the paperwork to our solicitor, our solicitor seemed much more interested in everyone else's work than ours and the company who built our house were about as accommodating as the north sea wind! So when we were just sitting waiting for everything to go through, desperate to get our house by the sea, I used some of the techniques I work through with my clients - never one to be accused on not taking one's own medicine! Visualisation techniques are quite a common theme in my coaching sessions, why? Because it's all about knowing and feeling where exactly you want to be and I'm not just talking about where you live, it can be anything from finding a new job, being in a financial position or even someone pulling through an illness, the problem could be anything and I really do believe that a bit of positive visualisation goes a long way. Here's how it works. It's all to do with your subconscious mind. The conscious part of your mind is the part that does all of your thinking and worrying and it deals with the logical stuff like, what time to take the chicken out of the freezer and how long it'll take to cook! The subconscious mind works in a much quieter way and acts as a storehouse, a huge memory bank for everything that you've ever seen or heard in your life. It's the part of your mind where intuition comes from and where all of those clever ideas you get come from. Now this is the part of the mind that we know very little about, but what we do know, is that it's more powerful than we think and some people say that visualising future events helps the subconscious to focus on the things that will help you to get there. In my case, I used these visualisation techniques to help my house move go through. What I did was very simple and you can mimic my approach in whatever situation you're dealing with at the moment. I used to drive to our house-to-be and sit outside it (don't worry it was empty so I wasn't stalking anyone!). I used to sit there and imagine the removal men taking our sofa in through the front door, I'd imagine how I'd be feeling moving everything in, pulling up the drive knowing that we owned the property and what all of our friends and family would say when they came for coffee. It's this bit, the imagination bit, that helps you get so closely involved with whatever it is you want to happen, that your subconscious mind then picks up on little pieces of information that could help that happen. Let me give you another example. Say a friend of yours tells you that she's looking for a brand new car in red that's in a certain price budget. The next time you're stopped at traffic lights and you look round and see a car lot with a red car in her price bracket, you'll notice it and call her with excitement. If she hadn't have told you exactly what to look for though, you'd never have put her needing a new car and that particular red car together and she may never have known about it. The same goes for your subconscious. Let it in on what you want and the more chances you have of it drawing your eye to things that are connected with that visualisation. For us , desperately wanting our house by the sea, we picked a mortgage consultant that was excellent (and patient!) and despite the delays, distractions and drama's we still ended up buying and finally moving into the house. Now, if you're feeling a little skeptical here, you're in good company as The Chosen One himself has had his concerns in the past about my various techniques to bringing positivity and good luck into our lives. However, he's lived with me long enough to see the benefits for himself and had I suggested doing a rain dance naked together on the front porch to get this house of ours I think he might just have agreed to do it - however, nakedness was not necessary in the end as everything went through - at the very last minute and by the skin of its teeth but the house was ours. Would the house have gone through anyway? Could I have avoided those strange looks as I sat opposite in the car staring at the front door? Well maybe, but I wasn't prepared to risk it…would you? For more information on your subconscious mind you could read my first book 'Behind with the Laundry and Living off Chocolate' (Crown House Publishing), as it concentrates a lot on female intuition, and how to focus your energy using your subconscious mind effectively - something that as you now know, is very easy to do. |
