The Babes on the Bus Reunion

by Heather Resnick

As the ancient Acropolis awaits the arrival of the now infamous Babes on the Bus, the Babes (minus the bus) cannot wait until 2008 to reunite. A mini reunion was in order. Deftly, our organized Babe, Jacqueline Witchell arranged our get-together. Our destination - the beautiful Georgian Bay lakeside resort of Severn Lodge (in cottage country, Ontario) during the first weekend of June.

Eight of our ten original women met for a weekend of rest, relaxation and camaraderie. The gods were in our favor - the weather was perfect - brilliant sunshine radiating warmth with a slight breeze coming from the clear, sparkling gorgeous lake. In pairs, we shared the cabins that provided us with magnificent vistas of the waterfront.

After a wonderful dinner, with a breathtaking lake view, we enjoyed entertainment by vocal illusionist (a ventriloquist by any other name) Mark Crocker. One of his sidekick puppets aptly chose one of our Babes to flirt with because she is "hot". The jokes bantered back and forth between us. We had our own naughty version that kept us in stitches. There is no lack of comedic material when the Babes gather. As a special treat on Saturday, we had the pleasure of boating in the refurbished classic Ditchburn motor launch that was custom built for Lady Eaton of the Eaton Department store family, with the owner of Severn Lodge, Rick Breckbill. We glided through the crystal lake amongst the little islands and surrounding cottage properties nestled in pristine woodlands. A sense of calm enveloped us.

The best was yet to come. With not a care in the world and no time restraints, The Babes spent the next several hours doing something we rarely allow ourselves to do - we just hung out on the lawn overlooking the magnificent waterway. We talked, laughed, drank champagne with strawberries and ate crackers with dip, chocolate and fruit. There is nothing more luxurious than to simply enjoy the moment and the caring company. After dinner, on the way back to our cabins, one of our Babes fell and hurt her leg. As we were trying to get her up, swarms of mosquitoes descended around her like one of Pharaoh's plagues. Spraying OFF!™ all around her head to ward them off, we managed to get her in her room and quickly shut the door - but not before many of the creepy crawlers managed their way into our space. Our stoic Babe leader, Debbie Ross swiftly eliminated our enemy by swatting them on the walls. We joked that it looked like Bonnie and Clyde had just finished a job there.

Our makeshift infirmary soon turned into the planning centre for our next major trip to Greece. Our wounded Babe quickly forgot her pain. Treasured trips trump, tripping!

The Babes eagerly anticipate another wonderful adventure.
